On February 4, 2019, new SEU requirements and renewal fees go into effect.

SEUs follow a 1:1 ratio, where one hour of participation or preparation is equal to one SEU. SEUs are required for renewing your foundational, advanced and professional-level certifications. This includes CSM®, CSPO®, CSD®, A-CSM℠, A-CSPO℠, CSP®-SM, CSP®-PO, and CSP®. There are six (6) sub-categories you can choose from when selecting SEUs. The information provided below for each category describes your choices and Braintrust earning opportunities are highlighted in bold BLUE text.
Category A: Scrum Alliance Scrum Gatherings –
*Attend one of our Agile Open Events!
Earn SEUs for participating in Scrum Alliance Global Gatherings, Scrum Alliance Regional Gatherings, Scrum Coaching Retreats, and Scrum Alliance-Sponsored Events, as well as in Scrum Alliance-Endorsed User Group events and activities.
- Presenting, coaching, and attending sessions all count as SEU-eligible activities.
- Additionally, because Scrum Alliance recognizes the value in impromptu (“hallway”) discussions at Scrum Gatherings, SEUs for attendance are earned at the same rate. A maximum of eight (8) SEUs may be earned per day.

A.1 Attended Global Scrum GatheringSM

A.3 Attended Scrum Alliance user group activity
A.4 Attended Scrum Alliance-sponsored event
A.5 Attended Scrum Coaching Retreat

Category B: Scrum Alliance Courses or Coaching – All
*Register for ANY of our Certified Agile training classes: CSM, CSPO, A-CSM, A-CSPO (coming soon), CSD, CAL I, CAL II, and Scrum@Scale Practioner.
*Register to attend any of our monthly webinars (for FREE).
Allowable SEUs in this category include working with Scrum Alliance CSTs, CECs, CTCs, and REPs. A full day of training is equal to a maximum of eight (8) SEUs.
You can earn additional SEUs by:
- Receiving continuing education in advanced Scrum topics.
- Attending training courses provided by CST®, such as webinars, recorded training, e-learning, or face-to-face courses (i.e. CAL I, A-CSM, A-CSPO, Scrum@Scale, etc.).
- Attending training courses provided by a Scrum Alliance®Registered Education Provider (REP). Please note that the course and instructor must be listed on the Scrum Alliance website. Validate via the Course Search page.
- Participating in one-on-one or small-group coaching provided by a CEC or CTC.
Verify CSTs, CECs, CTCs, or REPs through the Member Directory on our website.
Category B Options
B.1 Received CSM training
B.2 Received CSPO training
B.3 Received CSD training
B.4 Received training from a CST (including video training or eLearning, as described above)
B.5 Received training from a Scrum Alliance REP
B.6 Received coaching by a CEC or CTC
Category C: Outside Events –
*Attend one of our Agile Open events
*Attend local user group events
SEUs may be earned by participating in other relevant events, other than those sponsored by Scrum Alliance. This includes Agile conferences, regional meetings, training from someone who is not a CST, or a REP course that does not fit in Category B. Category C includes face-to-face activities where you are receiving rather than providing services.
Category C Options
C.1 Received face-to-face training outside of Scrum Alliance
C.2 Attended live Scrum/Agile events outside of Scrum Alliance
C.3 Attended user group events outside of Scrum Alliance
C.4 Received coaching or mentoring outside of Scrum Alliance
Category D: Volunteer Service
We encourage you to give back to the community. Therefore, SEUs may be earned by providing non-compensated professional Scrum services. You will be asked to affirm that you were not compensated for your volunteer work by your employer or another party..
Category E: Independent Learning
SEUs may be earned through various independent learning activities, such as: preparing (but not delivering) presentations; authoring relevant books, articles, or blogs; watching a training video; reading one or two books in depth and then fully describing their benefit to you as a Scrum practitioner.
Category E Options –

*Write a blog post for Braintrust.
E.1 Prepared a Scrum presentation (preparation time only, not delivering)
E.2 Authored a book, article, or blog
E.3 Watched a Scrum/Agile training video by an instructor other than a Scrum Alliance CST

E.5 Other independent learning (We invite instances of creative learning that do not fit into other categories)
Category F: Other Collaborative Learning

SEUs may be earned through a variety of other collaborative learning activities with other Scrum practitioners. Scrum Alliance acknowledges that not all learning fits neatly into the categories above. This category may not include submissions that belong in Categories B or C; for example, it is not for face-to-face training or events. Other SEUs will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Category F Options
F.1 Co-trained with the objective of learning
F.2 Received training via live webinar delivered by any trainer other than a CST
F.3 Other collaborative learning
